I grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. For the most part, my neighborhood was quiet. Every once in a while one might hear children playing outside. There were more teenagers than small children in my neighborhood. Once people hit a certain age, they don't come outside much to play. I was a little different. Until I was about 15, I would walk around the neighborhood with some friends. There wasn't much in walking distance, but the neighborhood was beautiful. There were a lot of foliage and hills that gave gave the neighborhood life. It was safe, quiet, and clean, basically the typical suburb. The Yellow River wasn't too far. My neighbors and I would take little weekend trips and swim in the river. One didn't have to worry about much in my neighborhood. There were little shops just a short drive down any of the surrounding main streets. Ice cream, grocery stores, video stores, Wal-mart, nail salons, hair salons, restaurants, etc., etc. Highway 78 wasn't even 5 minutes away. Everything is pretty much on Highway 78. Stonecrest Mall was about 15 minutes away. Nothing was ever too far. The Indian Creek Marta station was basically around the corner, meaning easy access to the bigger city life. I thought Stone Mountain was a great place to grow up. It was big, had stuff to do, diverse, and definitely not as expensive as other suburbs. I had fun during my childhood days. I still have friends who live in and around the area, so I'm never alone when I go to visit.
